What does it take to volunteer? Only a warm heart and a little bit of time. As a non-profit organization, Saved Me depends on volunteers who donate their time and energy to help save and improve the lives of thousands of animals. Volunteering is as easy as it is rewarding—all we ask is that you commit to at least 3 months of consecutive service or 25 hours in total. And in return, you’ll get lots of wags and licks of appreciation. There are lots of ways to make a difference for animals in need:

  • Socialize the animals while they wait to find their forever homes.
  • Walk the dogs around the neighborhood or play with them in our 800 square foot yard.
  • Take photos and write descriptions about adoptable animals and post them on adoption sites—it gives them more exposure and a better chance of being adopted.
  • Help with volunteer or adoption events by educating the public and potential supporters of Saved Me on our adoptable animals, programs and mission.
  • Make the animals more adoptable by assisting in teaching the dogs cues, like “sit” and “down.”
  • Help out in our office doing clerical work or fundraising activities.

Please attend this important hearing which will be discussing the future allocation of resources for Animal Care and Control of Philadelphia. If you cannot attend please send your friends and share this.

Notice of hearing from the office of Councilman Bobby Henon re: Philadelphia's Animal Care and Control Team:

On Monday, April 24 at 1:30 PM, City Council's Committees on Public Property and Public Works and Appropriations will convene a joint hearing to investigate and evaluate the quality of resources and funding levels of Animal Care and Control Team (ACCT). The hearing will take place at City Hall in City Council Chambers on the 4th floor.

Committee members are particularly interested in discussing the quality and safety of the current ACCT facility, plans for improvement/expansion of the facility (specifically space needs) and the impact of current funding levels on the well-being and outcomes of animals, staff, volunteers and adopters. The Committees are also interested in better understanding the role, engagement and partnership between ACCT and their volunteers and rescue partners.

The resolution authorizing the hearing is attached and is also available by visiting: phila.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=2962641&GUID=5F77DCDE-731A-437E-AE86-9694F6AB487A&Op...|Text|&Search=animal+care+and+control.
